Mrs. Lucile Cornell Rentz Lott, 94, born July 10, 1918, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013.
Mrs. Lott was preceded in death by her first husband, William Harrell Rentz, and by her second husband, Dan Lott, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Joy (Lucile Fitzsimmons Cornell) of Savannah.
She met her husband, William H. Rentz, who served as President of Commercial Bank in Waycross for many years prior to his death, at a bank outing in Savannah. Her father was president of Savannah Bank & Trust Co. then, and Mr. Rentz was associated with Citizen & Southern National Bank. After his death, she married Dan Lott, Jr., Waycross realtor and bank board member.
She was educated at Savannah High School and Armstrong Junior College. Mrs. Lott served as a Brownie Scout leader in Savannah. She and Mr. Rentz moved to Waycross in 1955.
She served in Waycross as a Cub Scout leader, YMCA patron, chairman of the board of the Ware County Cancer Society, president of the Waycross Cancer Society, member of The Okefenokee Heritage Center, a member of The Okefenokee Country Club, volunteer of United Way, president of Williams Heights P.T.A. and later as president of Ava Street School P.T.A., secretary of the Waycross Women’s Club, president of the Okefenokee Ladies Golf Association, member of Magnolia Garden Club, a civic and service leader, she was the recipient of the community service award of the Waycross Women’s Club and of the Waycross Pilot Club. She was the first woman elected to serve on the Waycross Ware County Board of Education, a position she held for two, four year terms. A member of First United Methodist Church in Waycross and was member of the Administrative Board, served as a Sunday School teacher for fifteen years, was president of United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Lott was preceded in death by a grandson, Wesley Rentz; two brothers, Louis Cornell and John Cornell; three sisters, Alice Brookshaw, Vivian Baggs, and Dorothy Oliver.
Survivors include two sons, William H. “Billy” Rentz Jr. of Callahan, Florida and John Cornell Rentz (Rosalie) of Thames, New Zealand, four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Lucile Rentz of New Zealand, Ashley Burgeson and Kyle Kelley both of Hoboken, one great-granddaughter, Morgan Rentz, one great-grandson, Aidan Rentz-Piggott; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Aldrich (James H.) of Melbourne, Florida and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
