Daisy Aline Benton Corbitt, 84, of Manor died Sunday afternoon (April 29, 2012) at Satilla Care Center after an extended illness. She was born in Pierce County to the late Thomas Whaley and Daisy Iola Bunton Benton and lived in Manor for 58 years. Mrs. Corbitt managed Spatola Shoe and Cap Factory for many years. She was a member of New Prospect United Methodist Church, former Secretary and Treasurer of the Adult Sunday School Class and a Charter Member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed attending services at Waycross Primitive Baptist Church while she lived in Waycross at Satilla Care Center. Mrs. Corbitt loved her country and politics and she was even invited to a Presidential Inauguration. She also loved music, singing and playing the guitar.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Luther Corbitt; three sisters, Marrie Benton, Lois Herrin and Doris Watt; five bothers, Dennie Benton, A.P. Benton, James Benton, Tommy Benton and Tony Benton.
Survivors include four sisters, Betty Riggins of Blackshear, Chiquita Johnson of Alma, Rosa Davis and her husband Eddie of Savannah, Martha Jean Gill of Savannah; four brothers, Ted Benton of Manor, Charles Benton and his wife Barbara of Savannah, Patrick Benton and his wife Leanne of Savannah, Hardy Gill and his wife Alma of Savannah; one sister-in-law, Lina Whitaker of Waycross; many nieces and nephews and many more great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11 am at New Prospect United Methodist Church in Manor. Burial will follow in New Prospect Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 pm at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
