Preston Berry Settle, 37, of Waycross died Sunday morning (March 3, 2013) at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Waycross and graduated from Waycross High School in 1994. Mr. Settle graduated from Valdosta State University and Park University with a Bachelors Degree and received his Masters Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. He lived in Valdosta for ten years and worked with AT&T. In March 2009, he moved home to Waycross and was the Human Resources Director for the Ware County Government. Mr. Settle attended First Baptist Church of Waycross, was a member of Waycross Exchange Club, and a professional organization, SHRM Society of Human Resources Management.
Preston was committed to his faith in God; he was devoted and loyal to his family and friends and enjoyed pulling for his favorite sports teams, Duke Basketball, Georgia Bulldog Football and the Atlanta Braves.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles Raymond and Bettie Lou McCallister Jeffords; paternal grandfather, Walker Vincent Settle, Jr.
Survivors include his children, John Walker Settle and Audrey Lee Settle both of Waycross, a step-daughter, Camryn Lee Settle of Valdosta; his parents, Vince and Rachel Jeffords Settle of Waycross; one sister, Jenni Morris and her husband Andy of Brunswick; one nephew, Tripp Morris and one niece, Addie Morris both of Brunswick; his greatest love, Whitney Kilmark of Waycross; paternal grandmother, Virginia B. Settle of Waycross; aunts and uncles, Mimi McGahee and her husband Terry of Lake Park, Ga., Sylvia Norris and her husband Dwight of Auburn, Al, Bettie Ann Matthews and her husband Jimmy of Lake Park, Ga., Elaine Tatum and her husband Mike of Jacksonville, Fl, Celeste Stephens and her husband Phillip of Waresboro, Ga, Ray Jeffords and his wife Helen of Shelby, NC; numerous cousins and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like give a special thanks to Dr. Sridhar Srinivasan along with his staff and the hospice nurses.
The family requests his cousins, the Ware County Officers and Employees, and the Waycross Exchange Club to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 3:40.
