Robert Fred Sapp

U.S. Veteran

Mr. Robert Fred Sapp, 73, of Waycross went to his heavenly home on February 23, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida following a brief illness. He was born in Waycross to the late Oscar Fred Sapp and Alma Strickland Sapp. Mr. Sapp was raised in Waycross and was a member of Wacona High School’s graduating class of 1958, the last graduating class in the history of the school. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked thirty four years for CSX Railroad as a conductor until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Sapp loved to hunt and fish, along with spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister, Charlotte Sue Sapp.

He is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Martha Bristow Sapp of Waycross, a son, Jonathan “Jon” Sapp of Waycross, a daughter, Mary Helen Landon and her husband Richard of Waycross, three grandchildren, Christopher, Tyler and Elizabeth Landon, two sisters, Ann Sapp Williamson and her husband Terry of Leechburg, Pennsylvania, Nancy Sapp of Apollo, Pennsylvania and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Tuesday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Members of the Wacona High School Class of 1958 have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the chapel by 2:45 p.m., Tuesday. The family will receive friends Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
