Rev. Baldy Mixon

Rev. James Alton “Baldy” Mixon, 62, of Waycross died Saturday night (May 12, 2012) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness. He was born in Clinch County to the late Alton Mixon and Jessie Marie Thompson Mixon Henderson. Rev. Mixon graduated from Manor High School in 1967, and lived in Ware County all of his life. He worked for Champion International as a Supervisor. Rev. Mixon was also a Minister and served Zenith Baptist Church in Manor and later Open Door Baptist Church in Waycross. He was a member of Headlight Hunting Club in Clinch County and enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and always enjoyed making people laugh.

Survivors include his wife to whom he married on June 11, 1971, Kellie Crews Mixon of Waycross; two daughters, Christina Coombs of Waycross and April Roberson and her husband Waylon of Waycross; three grandchildren, Tyler Knox, Lillie Knox and Jay Coombs; one sister, Peggy Guinn and her husband Harold, Sr. of Manor; step-father, Herman Henderson of Manor; several step-sisters and step-brothers; a special sister-in-law, Darlene Corbitt of Manor; former son-in-law, Chris Knox of Blackshear; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm at Open Door Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Zenith Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
