Leonard Baumann

Leonard R. Baumann, 94, of Waycross died Monday night (Jan. 9, 2012) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Chicago, IL to the late Arthur and Amalia Eckenstahler Baumann. Mr. Baumann retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company after many years of service. He moved to Waycross in 1979 and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles Wesley Sunday School Class, Keenager Choir, Chancel Choir and the Okefenokee Lions Club. During retirement Mr. Baumann enjoyed building projects and always helped with Christmas in April.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years in 2004, June G. Kemp Baumann; one grandson, Matthew Baumann; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Claire Baumann; two brothers, Emmett R. Baumann and Glenn A. Baumann.

Survivors include six children, Beverly J. Wendling and her husband Christ of North Freedom, Wisconsin, Ralph A. Baumann and his wife Pat of Waycross, Gerald R. Baumann and his wife Vickie of Kemp, IL, Christopher L. Baumann and his wife Karen of Decatur, GA, Curtis A. Baumann and his wife Pam of Eatonton, GA and Bonnie R. Johnson and her husband Howard of Dyer, IN; 24 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held Friday morning at 11 am at Trinity United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.

The family requests the Trinity United Methodist Church, Keenager Choir and the Okefenokee Lions Club to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:40 am Friday for the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, “Organ Fund” or “Follow the Carpenter”, 1005 Church Street, Waycross, GA 31501.
